Sermon on the Mount: Flourishing

The Beatitudes are written as a description of the life we were meant to live in God’s world. The word “Blessed” can, to our modern ears, sound like a transactional statement like, “If you make peace, God will call you his son!”, which couldn’t be further from the truth. Each of the Beatitudes describe an aspect of human flourishing that, together with the rest of the Sermon, paint a comprehensive picture of God’s design for humanity and it’s natural outcome.
